Bach’s Markus Passion
Join A Passion for Bach Committee to help raise awareness and funds for the April 11 world premiere of Bach’s Markus Passion in Pittsburgh.
Bach’s Markus Passion has received what is considered an authoritative reconstruction by esteemed musicologist Malcolm Bruno. Chatham Baroque partners with New York City-based companies Concert Theatre Works and The Sebastians to imagine this work in a gripping theatrical format narrated by acclaimed actor Joseph Marcell as the Evangelist. The ensemble combines 14 of the country’s leading instrumentalists with 4 phenomenal singers–Pascale Beaudin (soprano), Cody Bowers (countertenor), James Reese (tenor), and Jonathan Woody (bass-baritone). This gripping theatrical event will premiere at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland on April 11, 2025, then travels beyond, including a performance in New York City at Corpus Christi Church on April 13.
