Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges
Tempo di Menuetto from Sonata 1 in B-flat Major, Op. 1, Trois Sonates pour le clavecin ou forte piano avec accompagnement de violon. (pub. 1781)
In honor of Bastille Day, here’s a Minuet by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799) – celebrated composer, violinist extraordinaire, champion fencer, and decorated military commander – whose remarkable life intersected with the French Revolution.
Special thanks to Justin Wallace for his spirited performance (and his lovely Blanchet single) and Benaiah Sombke for editing.
